Monitor and cable compatibility before you buy
A display setup relies on the computer, dock, cable, monitor, and sometimes an adapter working together. Visual output issues often come from one overlooked link in that chain.
What to evaluate
Video standard
Check the computer’s output capability and the monitor’s inputs. HDMI, DisplayPort, USB-C, and Thunderbolt have overlapping but not identical support.
Resolution and refresh
Confirm the desired combination is supported through the exact port and cable path, not just by the monitor on its own.
Adapter limitations
Adapters can be useful, but they may limit refresh rate, disable charging, or require a specific signal type. Treat them as compatibility components, not simple extensions.
Desk ergonomics
Account for panel size, stand adjustment, viewing distance, and mounting needs alongside technical specifications.
